(None has the right to be worshipped except Allah, alone, without partner, to Him belongs all sovereignty and praise and He is over all things omnipotent. There is no might nor power except with Allah, none has the right to be worshipped except Allah and we worship none except Him. For Him is all favour, grace, and glorious praise. None has the right to be worshipped except Allah and we are sincere in faith and devotion to Him although the disbelievers detest it.)
Translated from Ustadz Firanda Andirja's Indonesian commentary (Bekal Islam). Quoted verses, hadith and duas keep their Arabic; where the commentary gave its own Indonesian rendering of them, that rendering is not translated and is marked [translation not shown].
This phrase contains the singling out of Allah in worship, and that Allah alone is the only Being who has the right to be worshipped; it also contains the declaration that He is free from every form of partner-ascribing in worship.
This phrase contains the affirmation of Allah's immense majesty, and also the affirmation that to Him belong the praises for all the countless blessings He gives to all His servants. It also shows Allah's power: that Allah is fully able to do whatever He wills, as happened in the story of Maryam, to whom Allah gave a child although no man had ever touched her,
“She said, "My Lord, how will I have a child when no man has touched me?" [The angel] said, "Such is Allah; He creates what He wills. When He decrees a matter, He only says to it, 'Be,' and it is” (Saheeh International, Qur'an 3:47) (Surah Ali Imran: 47)
(لاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِاللهِ) This phrase contains a servant's weakness and also his acknowledgement of his need for what is with Allah, because when a person has no ability at all, he will need the Being who gives him help and strength, and none is truly able to give all of that except Allah.
This dua contains the singling out of Allah; in this phrase the singling out of Allah is repeated, because a servant greatly needs to keep renewing his intention in making every form of worship sincerely for Allah alone. Sincerity is no easy matter: there are a great many temptations from Satan, who tries to make us slip away from it. Likewise, a servant acknowledges Allah's oneness with regard to every blessing and favour he enjoys. If every blessing and favour comes from Allah alone, then Allah alone has the right to be worshipped.
Then it is explained that the disbelievers do not like it when the Muslims affirm the oneness of Allah, and that they always try to bring the Muslims out of the religion of Islam and make them follow their religion, as Allah says,
“And never will the Jews or the Christians approve of you until you follow their religion. Say, "Indeed, the guidance of Allah is the [only] guidance." If you were to follow their desires after what has come to you of knowledge, you would have against Allah no protector or helper” (Saheeh International, Qur'an 2:120) (Surah Al-Baqarah: 120)
