"Laa ilaaha illallaah, wahdahu laa syariika lah, lahul mulku wa lahul hamd, yuhyii wa yumiit, wa huwa hayyun laa yamuut, biyadihil khoir, wa huwa 'alaa kulli syai-in qodiir."
(None has the right to be worshipped except Allah, alone, without partner, to Him belongs all sovereignty and praise. He gives life and causes death, and He is living and does not die. In His hand is all good and He is over all things, omnipotent.)
Translated from Ustadz Firanda Andirja's Indonesian commentary (Bekal Islam). Quoted verses, hadith and duas keep their Arabic; where the commentary gave its own Indonesian rendering of them, that rendering is not translated and is marked [translation not shown].
This dua is recited when about to enter a market or another busy public place. Reciting it is sunnah, and it is a form of dhikr of Allah in a place where people are usually heedless of remembering Him.
